Suparn S Varma is going to make a film on the controversial Shah Bano Begum Case

We all know the Shah Bano Begum Case, considered the landmark case in the after Independence India.

Shah Bano, 62 year old had filed this case in 1978 after her husband Ahmad Khan divorced her. She asked for alimony from her husband for the maintenance of herself and her children under Section 123 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. She won the case and it led to the uproar in society.

Since section of the audience believed that the judgement delivered was in conflict with the Islamic law. It led to a debate about having different civil codes for different religions in India. This discussion continues for more than 40 years now since the verdict was pronounced.

Suparn S Varma, the filmmaker of big projects like The Family Man series, Rana Naidu series, The Trial series, is all set to helm this film project based on the Shah Bano Case.

Suparn has locked the script and is in process of finalizing the cast and crew. There are rumors also saying that a National award winning director is going to also be part of this project. Makers are yet to confirm the same.
