Shaakuntalam movie review: Nice acting by the cast, story little less entertaing, VFX and CGI little poor

Shaakuntalam is a mythological movie, a period drama movie, story about Shaakuntalam and Dushyant Raja. Very unique topic the movie is made on. Hardly you will find movies on the topic.

The love story of these two characters portayed on screen was beautiful. Few romantic scenes were there, yet you can watch with family. Dushyant Raja character acting was okay but his performance as a lover boy (Dev Mohan) was good. Dialogue delivery was okay. Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Shaakuntalam (her innocent look and the innocene in her face was pure, raw and visible to the audience).

The rest of the cast also did a good role in terms of acting. FIlm VFX and CGI could have been better. This is a period drama film hence, VFX and CGI of the film are likely to be judged. I was very happy with the way story turned out to be interesting and gripping towards the second half and end of the film.

Audiences were hooked to the screen. Film first half was only character build up and introduction, that was a little boring. FIlm screenplay could have written nicely to engage the audience.

Songs of this film were not pleasing to the ear. Some of the songs in the second half could have been skipped, were not necessary. I liked the acting of all the actors in the film and also I was also happy looking at some scenes in the film. They looked really beautiful. The narration of the film in some parts of the film were also good.

Those who don’t know this mythogical story of Shaakunatam and Dushyant Raja should really watch this film because this will give you little bit knowledge about our mythology.

Those who know the story of Shaakuntalam, they will find nothing extraordinary in the film as they already know the story. FIim duraton was decent enough (2 hours 29 minutes). I loved the attempt these filmmakers made to bring out this story on big screen. But some more work should have on the screenplay to make the film more entertaining to the audeience. I rate this film 3.5 stars out of 5.
