We recently came to know that Saif Ali Khan wanted to play the character to be portrayed by Vijay Sethupathi in the Merry Christmas movie.
But director Sriram Raghavan had some other plans. He said no to Saif Ali Khan for playing the role opposite Katrina Kaif in the movie.
He said to Saif that he wanted a fresh pairing in the movie that no one could ever imagine. So during some some event in Melbourne, he met Vijay Sethupathi and he was impressed by his fluency in Hindi. He also was impressed by watching Vijays’s 2018 film 96. So he thought to cast Vijay Sethupathi in the movie.
He says that this fresh pair will make the audiences curious and he wanted that kind of curiousity to arise in the minds of the audience. He too is excited for the film. He wanted some kind of freshness in the movie.
Saif-Katrina have worked together in movies like Phantom. Race etc. So he wanted a fresh pairing with Katrina, someone who has not worked with her earlier in movies.
Merry Christmas releases in cinemas January 12, 2024 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
