Kantara, the Kannada success film, whose hindi version is finally coming to cinemas tomorrow October 14. Their writer-director- actor Rishab Shetty and actress Sapthami Gowda spoke exclusively with Filmifever today.
Rishab Shetty said in this conversation that the film success mostly goes to the audience of the film, specially the Kannada audience for spreading the word about the film and recommending it to non Kannada film watchers. He also shared one memory that right after Kantara began screening in Karnataka on the Spetember 30, they were on a promotion spree to the theatres in Mysore, film was doing really well there, they started receiving demand from the non-kannada audience also to release this film in their language. They didnt have much time. So he had to rush to Mumbai to do the dubbing for the Hindi version of Kantara which releases tomorroow. Rishab Shetty also said, the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalm dub process is also going on.
Rishab Shetty describes his film as a nature vs human conflict. He belives the bridge between them is the deva or the Panjurli deva or the Guliga. He believes that bridge, positive enrgy was protecting him throughout the film. ‘They are guiding us throughout the film and we are following their footsteps’. Rishab Shetty was asked about his inspiration behind this movie Kantara, what made him write this kind of story, how did the bhootakola culture mention in the film came to his mind? Rishab Shetty said, that bhootakola ritual tradion which is followed in certain parts of Karantaka, he has seen it in his village right snce his chldhood and so he thought why not have a film on it. He believed that what is there in his village, if he shows it to people, people will get to see something new. He also said that by making a film on his local cultue, ritual and tradition people will get to see some newness in it and there will be no comparision. He felt that people might have not seen much about Bhootakola and other rituals in mainstram films and there was a need to share that on screen, put it in mainstream cinema so that not only Kannada audience will see but also outside Kannade audience will be able to see the culture of their region with this film. Rishab Shetty also spoke about the audience taste which has changed and people are well educated. They are reviewing the writing, acting, cinematography, dialogue, direction, everything, every department of the film. Audiences preferences are updated. ‘So it is necessary to updates ourselves also as filmmakers of the film’. Sadly, he also said that ‘we directors are mostly outdated. We present films that are written already a year ago. Year or more takes time on the making of the film. That after finishing the process, we present to you now’.
